Snowy Foliage
Alaska

It’s been called the Land of Lincoln, Seward’s Folly and the Last Frontier,
but I’ve got another name for Alaska of my own,
it has to do with the one thing that you’ll always be wearing,
and it is the reason that I call Alaska . . . the Land of Socks!

A pile of boots and clogs you will find just inside our front doors,
and it won’t really matter at what time of year.
They’ll be covered in snow and ice, or caked with glacial mud,
and they make it easy to scan and see just who is here.

Inside our homes we walk around all the time in our socks,
for everyday living, and even at parties, no matter how posh,
which means that there is an unspoken competition,
to see who is sporting the most interesting socks.

So remember if you decide to visit our Big Dipper state,
named for the huge constellation in the sky that embraces our flag,
to pay attention to the socks that you pack in your suitcase,
for they will be the most scrutinized item that you tucked in your bag.
