Gentleman on Boardwalk
Gentlemen

A gentleman is an imaginative and sensitive guy
who can show you his love with just his eyes and his smile,
and he makes you feel that time spent together is truly worthwhile.

A gentleman will call just to see how your day’s been,
even though he’s in between planes or making tough decisions,
for he won’t skip that adorable call even for such essential reasons.

A gentleman wants to know of your opinions and your dreams,
he listens completely enraptured, or at least that’s how it seems,
and he knows of your failures and the regret that each one of them means.

A gentleman knows the meaning of the word ‘no’,
he would never ask you to go any further than you say that you want to go,
and he can tell when it’s the right time to stay or when he should go home.

A gentleman loves every single one of your mental and physical scars,
he sees them as your badges of courage in life and not as your flaws,
and you can trust him with your heart even as he unties your silk pajamas.

A gentleman will carry you in his arms through the finest restaurant in town,
deftly avoiding tight tables so he won’t snag your ruby-red cocktail gown,
as his swift solution when you are too weak to walk the long room on your own.

A gentleman doesn’t run from your trials or their tears,
with him you can share long-kept secrets and the list of things that you fear,
and you know he’ll still be there to comfort you, year after year.

A gentleman is truly a gentle woman’s very best friend,
for such is the life lesson  I learned from the sublime gentlemen
who have wrapped my heart with their loving tenderness time and again.
