Calypso painting by V Rae
Menagerie

Foxes and bears have their eyes on me,
a yorkie and a water hound lie at my feet.

A carved bird flies across the glass atrium,
while a giraffe hides behind a corner palm.

Chickadees feed outside the kitchen at noon,
a red poll questions me from inside the room.

Otters and whales swim on my walls,
a porcupine stares at me down the hall.

A moose in the twilight lies disguised as a rock,
an owl shouts out its presence flying over the bluff.

Glass frogs freeze between leaps as they sparkle at me,
my life has become a menagerie.
