Big sky
Snowbird

The snowbird lay still with her broken wing,
while they circled ever closer, trapped they believed,
they froze in their tracks when she started to sing,
then closed her eyes and slipped into the deep.

Dedication: This poem is dedicated to the Air Force crewmen lost in a plane crash the evening of July 28, 2010, at Elmendorf Air Force base in Anchorage, Alaska. That very morning, I wrote this poem and paired it with this image. Their memory will always be entwined in this poem. Master Sergeant Circado, Captain Hill, Major Freyholz and Major Malone.  Say a prayer for their families from now ‘til ever after.
